Steps to Take In A Pet Emergency

If your pet is experiencing a veterinary emergency, take the following steps.

  • Call Ahead If Possible - Call us immediately during our usual business hours. For after-hours care, contact one of the emergency animal hospitals listed above to let them know you are on the way.
  • Follow Instructions Provided - When you call to let the emergency pet hospital know you are coming they may provide you with instructions to help you give first aid or otherwise make your pet as comfortable as possible. Follow these instructions carefully.
  • Remain Calm - Be calm and extra cautious near your pet. When animals are in pain they can react negatively towards anyone trying to help and could bite or scratch.
  • Bring Your Pet In For Care - Don't put yourself at risk! Safely take your cat or dog to our Franklin veterinary clinic or one of the after-hours emergency vet locations above.

Emergency FAQs

See our most frequently asked questions below to get more information about taking your pet to see us at Pet Vet for an emergency appointment.

  • Do I need to call ahead?

Pet Vet can provide cats and dogs with emergency and urgent veterinary care during our normal hospital hours. It's always best to call us in advance if you are able, but we know that in emergency situations it isn't always feasable.

If we can't fit your pet into our schedule, we suggest visiting one of the after-hours emergency vet locations shown above.

  • When is your clinic open?

Our veterinarians see emergency cases during our regular business hours:

    • Monday: 08:00 am - 06:00 pm

    • Severe vomiting or diarrhea; 2+ episodes in 24-hours
    • Bleeding from nose, mouth, rectum, or blood in the urine

    • Heat stress or heatstroke

  • How long will we have to wait to see the vet?

Our Franklin animal hospital operates like a human doctor's office—it could be unpredictable, and you might need to wait.

We are unable to predict which cases we will see and when they will arrive. Call us in advance if you can, to find out if we are able to provide your cat or dog with emergency care.

If we can't fit an emergency appointment into our vet's schedule we recommend visiting one of the 24/7 animal emergency hospitals shown above.
